Factors associated with healthy aging: the cardiovascular health study

Article Abstract:

This article examines factors associated with the maintenance of good health in older adults. Findings indicate that factors including not smoking, exercise, educational status, body composition, and wine consumption were associated with health maintenance while diabetes, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure levels were associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases.

Patterns of self-rated health in older adults before and after sentinel health events

Article Abstract:

This article examines changes in the health status of adults over sixty five in relation to important health events like heart attacks or cancer. Findings indicate that self-rated health generally demonstrates a decline before a sentinel health event, recovers briefly after the event, and then continues to decline in older adults.

A study on the incidence rates of major cardiovascular disease (CVD) in older Americans aged 65 and older and inclusive of African Americans, indicates that the incidence of CVD is very high.
