Incorporating education on palliative care into the long-term care setting
Article Abstract:
Education on palliative care has been incorporated into the long-term care setting to address the need for those who work in such facilities to have understanding of the end-of-life situation. Medical schools and their curriculum committees might do well to set up a change of venue for education and develop at least a few case-based studies that incorporate long-term care setting in a substantial way and emphasize palliative care. A medical student might profit by having 3-5 patients in a long-term care setting over the 4-year curriculum. Turnover would be on a 4-year, not a 4-week, basis and brief exchanges about resuscitation orders would not be the upper limit.

A home care annotated bibliography
Article Abstract:
This bibliography is directed toward articles on home health care as a substitute for long-term institutional and hospital care. Other articles describe home care interventions that can improve function or prevent placement at various institutions. Most physicians are unaware of the complexities surrounding home care because little information is provided through formal instruction or in medical literature.
