Instruments for the assessment of pain in older persons with cognitive impairment

Article Abstract:

A study on developing pain measurement instruments to be used for measuring acute and chronic pain among cognitively impaired older persons and also to check for their reliability and validity is presented. Of the thirty-nine instruments reviewed no single instrument reported good scores for both reliability and validity.

Interest in geriatric medicine in Canada: how can we secure a next generation of geriatricians?

Article Abstract:

A study examining the factors in Canada that prevent the students from choosing geriatric medicine as a career, are examined. Canada is facing tremendous shortage of geriatricians. Suggestions on methods of improving geriatric curriculum and creating student interest for this career are presented.

The geriatric curricula and specialization areas offered by Canadian medical schools are not increasing according to the increased asking rate, as the numbers of older people are increasing. The future consequences are observed.
