Late-onset multiple sclerosis

Article Abstract:

This article examines the prevalence and clinical characteristics of multiple sclerosis that develops in adults over fifty years old. Findings indicate that the development of multiple sclerosis in late adulthood is not rare and that the majority of patients experience motor symptoms, depression, sensory disturbances, and rapid disease progression.

Outbreak of campylobacteriosis at a senior center

Article Abstract:

This article presents an investigation of an outbreak of campylobacter infections among a group of older adults who had participated in an event at a senior center in Connecticut. It was determined that the cross-contamination of food with raw meats during preparation led to the cases of campylobacteriosis.

Primary myelodysplasia: management and outcome at 3 years in 45 patients age 65 and older

Article Abstract:

Studies on 45 patients in a French university hospital indicate that myelodysplasia has a poor prognosis in patients 65 years of age and older. Findings also suggest that myelodysplasia is under-reported for this age group. Implications for health care strategies are discussed.
