ACE gene polymorphism and insulin action in older subjects and healthy centenarians
Article Abstract:
This article investigates the relationship between polymorphism in the angiotensin-converting enzyme gene and insulin resistance among older Italian adults and centenarians. Findings indicate that the genetic polymorphism is associated with increased insulin resistance in both older Italians and centenarians.

Oxidative stress and advancing age: results in healthy centenarians
Article Abstract:
Oxidative stress levels were examined in health centenarians. It was found that centenarians have lower levels of oxidative stress, that is, anti- and pro-oxidant factors, than younger subjects. The differences were noted in plasma vitamine E and C concentrations, reduced/oxidized glutathione ratio, fasting plasma glucose, and FFA concentrations and insulin resistance.

Low plasma insulin-like growth factor-1 concentrations predict worsening of insulin-mediated glucose uptake in older people
Article Abstract:
A longitudinal, observational trial has been carried out to investigate the relationship among advancing age, insulin action, and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) concentration on insulin-mediated glucose uptake in 58 healthy subjects aged 73.1 +/- 9.4 years. It was found that low plasma IGF-1 predicts a decline in insulin-mediated glucose uptake in those who are aging. The direct effect of IFG-1 administration might profitably be investigated.
