Mood induction with older adults: a tool for investigating effects of depressed mood
Article Abstract:
Mood induction techniques are used with older adults to successfully mimic the symptoms of clinical depression. A new study seeks to validate the use of mood induction on older people. A group of 222 older people were exposed to mood induction procedures and compared with 20 controls and 17 older adults with clinical depression. It is shown that the mood induction procedure can give experimental control of moods in older adults.

Commentary on evidence-based psychological treatments for older adults
Article Abstract:
Criteria developed by the Society of Clinical Psychology are applied to evaluate evidence-based psychological treatments (EBTs) for older adults. The EBTs are found to be effective, but gaps in evidence and access to medical care are identified as the two hurdles in the provision of appropriate treatment to older adults.
