Nutrional intake monitoring for nursing home residents: A comparison of staff documentation, direct observation, and photography methods
Article Abstract:
This article discusses methods of assessing nutrional intake of nursing home residents. Results show that a photography method or a direct observation by research staff yield similar estimation and is less than the estimation documented by the nursing home staff.

An intervention to increase fluid intake in nursing home residents: prompting and preference compliance
Article Abstract:
Research suggests that verbal prompting can increase between-meal fluid intake in incontinent nursing home residents. Data were obtained from 63 subjects, 78% of whom drank more between-meal beverages in response to the prompts. Beverage preference compliance was more effective among subjects who were less cognitively impaired.

Family members' preferences for nutrition intervention to improve nursing home residents' oral food and fluid intake
Article Abstract:
It has been found that family members prefer that other nutrition interventions be tried before oral supplements are used or pharmacological approaches are put into place to improve oral food and fluid intake for nursing home residents. Preferences were investigated in a cross-sectional descriptive study. Family members feel there is a need for intervention if a resident consumes, on average, half of the food and fluid offered at mealtime.
