Octogenarian subjects have low postprandial levels of chylomicron remnants: a possible explanation for protection against atherosclerosis
Article Abstract:
The metabolism of postprandial lipoproteins in healthy octogenarians were compared with younger controls usingthe vitamin A-fat loading tests in an attempt to explain the processes for protection against athrosclerosis. Results showed that the mean peak labeled chylomicron remnant and those below the chylomicron remnant curve were lower inthe octogenarian group than in controls. However, labeled chylomicron levels and lipolysis are not different between the two which suggests that the octogenarians do not have decreased chylomicron lipolysis that is usually seen in aging.

Adipocytes of old rats produce a decreased amount of differentiation factor for preadipocytes derived from adipose tissue islets
Article Abstract:
The growth and differentiation of cultured preadipocytes or islet-derived cells of aging and young rats were compared. Results show that the differentiation of islet-derived cells of old rats aged 17 to 23 months is decreased as compared to young rats 3.5 months old. The difference in the development of islet-derived cells between the age groups maybe due to decreased production of differentiation factor by the co-cultured adipocytes of the old rats.

Lack of an effect of age on beta-adrenoceptor-mediated lipolysis in isolated human adipocytes
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that beta 1-adrenoceptor and beta 2-adrenoceptor human adipocyte responses do not substantially change as a result of aging. Young and elderly subjects who experienced identical orthostatic and dietary conditions exhibited the same beta-adrenoceptor stimulated lipolysis in a gluteal fat biopsy. Normal aging may also not, therefore, be linked with perturbations in the cardiac tissue's beta-adrenoceptor responsiveness.
