Patterns of personality change across the life span
Article Abstract:
There is an underlying pattern of lifetime changes in self-confidence, cognitive commitment, outgoingness, and dependability and an underlying pattern of stability for assertiveness. No systematic underlying pattern fits the lifetime trajectories for warmth. Cognitive commitments show the greatest lifetime changes. Women are more outgoing throughout their life while men are more assertive. The pattern of assertiveness exhibits no change from age 18 to 60. However, the degree and direction of change vary among individuals.
