Commentary on "Long-term Calorie Restriction Reduces Energy Expenditure in Aging Monkeys."
Article Abstract:
DeLaney et al's (1999) paper on the effects of caloric control on the energy metabolism of aging monkeys considers issues that are of great significance to the pathogenesis and treatment of obesity in humans. Of particular interest to researchers is the impact of chronic caloric reduction on cardiovascular and cancer morbidity and on longevity. An issue that needs to be explored is whether the suppression of the potential effects of leptin can account in part to the salubrious impact of chronic calorie restriction.

Commentary on 'Delayed immune aging in diet-restricted B6CBAT6 F1 mice is associated with preservation of naive T cells.'
Article Abstract:
Jichun Chen and associates have conducted a research associating the preservation of naive T cells to delayed immune aging. One of their main conclusions was that certain age-related changes in the T-cell compartment are caused by dietary restriction initiated at weaning and maintained throughout the life span. Their study may help uncover age-sensitive switches in T-cell homeostasis despite the problematic use of dietary restriction as a clinical approach to immunosenescence.

Commentary on "Age-Dependent Increase in Infarct Volume Following Photochemically Induced Cerebral Infarction: Putative Role of Astroglia."
Article Abstract:
Researchers used a rat model to show that stroke produces more damage in the aged brain than in young brains. They used a photochemical technique to induce the stroke, which is relatively non-invasive.
