What geriatricians should know about the Werner syndrome
Article Abstract:
Werner syndrome (WS), also known as progeria of the adult, and what geriatricians should know about it are discussed. WS may or may not be equated with premature aging in adults. The full-blown syndrome is the result of null mutations relating to the Werner helicase gene (WRN), but there are subtle variations in expression and function at the locus. Significance of WS research for usual/typical aging and the role of genomic instability/damage in usual/typical aging are considered.

Bedrails: do they have a benefit?
Article Abstract:
Bedrails may not provide as much protection for frail elderly patients as they are traditionally supposed to provide. Bedrails at times can cause injuries and even fatalities among the elderly patient population. New designs for hospital beds should be offered. Such designs have been available in Australia but have not been widely accepted.
