Sources of covariation among Mini-Mental State Examination scores, education, and cognitive abilities
Article Abstract:
Genetic effects have significant influence on general cognitive ability, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores, and educational performance in elderly people. Genetic factors are also crucial for the relationship between education and general cognitive ability and between education and MMSE. An analysis of general cognitive abilities data, education, and MMSE from identical twin pairs and fraternal pairs between the ages 50 and 88 reveals that genetic factors are responsible for 32% and 19% of variations in MMSE in men and women, respectively.

Measurement properties of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale: an Australian community study of aged persons
Article Abstract:
The four-factor model of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) Scale is tested on a population of older Australians to determine its cross-cultural applicability. The influence of age and other demographic variables on each individual factor is also examined. Finally, the results of the Australian testing are compared with those of American, Canadian and Japanese studies to assess the varied cultural responses to the CES-D scale.
