The International Year of Older Persons: putting aging and research onto the political agenda
Article Abstract:
The 1999 United Nations International Year of Older Persons will provide an opportunity to highlight key gerontological issues in national and international fora. One such initiative is the Research Agenda on Aging for the 21st Century. The agenda aims to determine priority areas in gerontological research and make coordinated and collaborative research throughout the world. Relevant findings will be provided to policymakers to help them in formulating solutions to aging-related issues.

Aging and the segregation of auditory stimulus sequences
Article Abstract:
Aging has little effect on auditory stream segregation, and the decrease in auditory selective attention with age is probably due to a later stage of processing such as execution or response selection. Stream segregation is independent of any incapacity to segregate relevant and irrelevant streams of sounds. Improvements in response are same in old and young adults, under conditions of auditory streaming. Young people however, respond to target zones rapidly and with greater accuracy.

Successful aging at work: an applied study of Selection, Optimization, and Compensation through impression management
Article Abstract:
A study of job-performance of several 40- to 69-year-old employed adults based on the Selection, Optimization and Compensation model (SOC) of successful aging reveals an enhancement in Selection performance correlation, Optimization and Compensation through impression management and achieving goals with increase in age. The workplace environment and the outlook of each person toward one's job influences these SOC behaviors, which are more effective for the older working people.
