Visual risk factors for falls in older people

Article Abstract:

This article examines risk factors associated with accidental falls in a sample of older adults. Findings indicate that subjects with good vision reported the fewest falls while factors like impaired vision, poor depth perception, reduced contrast sensitivity, and slow reaction time were associated with an increased risk of falling.

The effect of group exercise on physical functioning and falls in frail older people living in retirement villages: a randomized, controlled trail

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to determine whether a group exercise program can improve physical functioning and reduce the rate of falling in frail older people. The findings show that group exercise can prevent falls and maintain physical functioning in frail older people.

Lateral stability, sensorimotor function and falls in older people

Article Abstract:

Sensorimotor function, lateral stability and falls in older people are discussed based on a cross-sectional and retrospective study involving 156 community-dwelling subjects 63-90 in age with a mean age of 76.5. Simple new tests have been found for evaluation of the probability of falling for his group. Specific physiological systems were seen to be important in maintaining lateral stability.
