The use of mammography by women aged 75 and older: factors related to health, functioning, and age
Article Abstract:
Mammographic screening for women aged 50 to 74 is conducted in hopes of detecting and preventing breast cancer before it becomes a health risk. A study was conducted to examine the extent which age, health, and functioning influence older women's decision to use memographic screening. A group of 2352 women were chosen and surveyed. The results revealed that 26.7% of subjects had mammographic screening and women aged 85 and older were less likely to use such examination than other age-groups.

Coronary heart disease risk factors of vigorously active sexagenarians and septuagenarians
Article Abstract:
Elderly men can benefit from vigorous exercise even into their 70's. The medical records of 175 septuagenarians, 935 sexagenarians and 8,672 younger male runners were examined. Even in the older runners, longer running distances were associated with higher HDL-cholesterol levels, lower total cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, lower triglyceride levels and lower body mass index and waist circumference.

Risk factors for colonization with yeast species in a veterans affairs long-term care facility
Article Abstract:
Patients in long-term care facilities are likely to experience yeast infections if they remain in the facility for 3 or more months. Serious yeast infections occurred infrequently, but colonization may become clinically important when patients are transferred to an acute-care facility where risk factors are present.
