A closer look at adult immunization in the United States
Article Abstract:
It is not immediately possible for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to shift its priorities from child to adult immunization. The CDC has estimated that $34 million to $80 million in expenditures are needed for a comprehensive adult immunization program. Such a large amount cannot be taken from the National Immunization Program's childhood immunization activities since it could lead to higher rates of childhood disease. The National Vaccine Advisory Committee, in cooperation with various private and public health entities, has drawn up several strategies for coming up with a more comprehensive adult immunization program.
