A political economy of international migration, 1815-1914

Article Abstract:

The economic factors influencing global migration policies and the resulting migration patterns in the 19th century were analyzed by determining who benefits from and who controls migration. The study indicated that governments and labor unions in the 19th century imposed regulatory measures based on membership and national security requirements to control migration. Owners of land and capital assets gain from immigration while labor benefits from emigration. Moreover, analyses of data pertaining to the US and the UK point to the influence of exogenous events in determining migration policies.

The macrodynamics of international migration as a sociocultural diffusion process: part A: theory

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the process of international migration is presented. The analysis assumes that settled friends and family assume information exchange with potential migrants at destination and origing points. A model incorporates the process of migration flow and applies a differential equation method for evaluating variables. It is shown that the model can predict migration movements by examining concerned historical, demographic and economic data.

Temporal aggregation in diffusion models of first-time purchase: does choice of frequency matter?

Article Abstract:

The theoretical and empirical significance of employing different data frequencies when determining new product diffusion models utilizing both nonlinear least squares and ordinary least squares was studied. Parameters for five consumer durables were obtained. Findings indicated that there is substantial improvement in estimates when seasonally adjusted quarterly data were used in lieu of annual data.
