Testing the limits of testing: HIV and sexual assault
Article Abstract:
The argument whether rapists should be HIV screened removes focus from the assault itself which is an equally important issue. The survivor's recovery is hampered by his attention being constantly trained on the HIV test and its result which adds to his/her anxiety. The contrary emphasizes rape by strangers unmindful that assaults are mostly done by relatives and acquaintances of the rape survivor. Though random testing is crucial, HIV screening in rape cases is an issue which has convincing points both for and against it.
