A view from the field: phone help line in India helps identify HIV risk behaviors
Article Abstract:
Sexual behavior and risks that contribute to the increasing prevalence of human immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV) in India were identified through the documented calls made through a sexual counselling telephone help line. Such risks include ignorance about HIV transmission and sexually transmitted diseases, false beliefs about masturbation, media emphasis on sexuality, clandestine premarital sexual activity and lack of knowledge on conception. Heterosexist HIV-awareness campaigns, unprotected intercourse, unprotected child abuse and several other forms of sexual liaisons were also identified.

Learning to feel good about yourself: Puberty education reconsidered
Article Abstract:
Puberty education is offered in schools but instruction is fairly limited in depth and breadth. Most of the instruction focuses on the physiology of maturation and related hygiene issues, but does not deal with sexuality, body image, peer relationships, sexual orientation and self-acceptance. Planned Parenthood developed an English and Spanish puberty curriculum, Growing Up Learning to Feel Good About Yourself, which aims to promote the self confidence, knowledge and communication required for a positive and healthy puberty.
