Academic research and teaching productivities: a case study
Article Abstract:
Joint-product production functions in 31 academic departments are estimated using a micro-micro theory approach. Of particular concern are faculty research and teaching productivities as affected by department and faculty size. One of the key findings is that teaching productivity declines and research productivity increases as faculty size increases. On the other hand, department size negatively affects research productivity but positively impacts on teaching productivity.

Strategy for activating university research
Article Abstract:
Activation of university research depends upon a partnership among the university, the government and industry. The university would provide the research capabilities lost by several companies due to downsizing. The university would be able to participate in high technology arenas. Both operations should share information while setting the research goals.
