Atlanta: gateway to the south
Article Abstract:
The 1991 National Convention and Exhibition of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) will be held in Atlanta, Georgia from Sept 29 to Oct 2. Delegates are sure to be delighted, not only with the sights, the southern hospitality, and the growing economy, but also with the impressive work that the Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA) has been doing. The AHA is the 5th largest housing authority in the US and it houses 10% of the total population of Atlanta. The AHA's many activities include operating four types of housing programs, managing two child care facilities, co-sponsoring a planned community program for the development of non-traditional housing initiatives, and trying to establish a drug-free housing community. The AHA seems very dedicated in carrying out its mission of enriching the lives of public housing tenants.

NAHRO in Seattle
Article Abstract:
Seattle, WA has been selected as the site for the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials' 1989 national conference because the city has worked on a variety of redevelopment projects to revitalize the city including: developing more than 7,000 federally-assisted public housing units; revitalizing historic shopping and meeting areas; and improving port locations. The city is currently working to establish more public housing and passed a housing levy in 1986 which will fund 1,000 low-income housing units. Additionally, the Seattle housing authority has developed strategic plans for four additional housing projects.
