Economic status, informal change, and sexual risk in Kisumu, Kenya

Article Abstract:

The relationship between economic status, informal exchanges, and sexual risk behavior in Kisumu, Kenya, is studied. Economic status is positively associated with amount of transfer and condom use. Men of lower economic status giving large transfers are at higher risk of spreading AIDS through less condom use.

Poverty and the impact of AIDS on older persons: evidence from Cambodia and Thailand

Article Abstract:

The impact of the AIDS epidemic on parents of AIDS victims and its connection with poverty in Cambodia and Thailand is studied. Older-age parents in Cambodia spend more money and exert more effort in caring for their sons and daughters who are infected with AIDS than parents in Thailand.

Impact of AIDS-related mortality on farm household welfare in Zambia

Article Abstract:

The impact of prime-age adult mortality due to AIDS on farm household welfare indicators in Zambia is studied. Short-term effects, such as on labor replenishment, farm production, cattle asset value, and off-farm income, are noted.
