Environmental problems of the Danube delta
Article Abstract:
The Danube Delta in Romania has undergone vast environmental degradation due to the decision of the former communist regime to utilize the natural resources of the area. In addition, there has been eutrophication and rising nutrient, heavy-metal and pesticide inflow from the Danube River. Nevertheless, there is still a chance to remedy the situation. The government has ordered a stop to all agricultural and hydrologic developments in the area, and scientists are studying how to restore the wetlands.
