Explaining tradable and non-tradable prices in the UK
Article Abstract:
A close analysis of UK tradable and non-tradable prices can give a valuable insight into the influences of domestic and overseas factors on the inflationary process. It is clear that changes in internal relative prices have an impact on resource allocation, while divergences in sectoral inflation rates may be an indication of poor intersectoral connections and nominal rigidities. Research proves a link between a conventional measure of international competitiveness and the relative price of tradables and non-tradables within a country.

House Prices, Inflation and the Mortgage Market
Article Abstract:
Quarterly Irish data is used to identify the determinants of real house prices in Ireland. For the period 1971 through 1980, the cost and availability of mortgage credit is found to significantly impact on house prices. Considerable effect is also attributed to the type of mortgage instrument and tax advantages accrued from home ownership. The housing market is influenced by inflation through buyers' perception of price.
