Planning and mediation - democratic theory and public participation in Israel
Article Abstract:
The nature of participation planning in Israel, formerly considered to be characterized by 'high pressure' and 'turbulence' has been transformed to what is now considered an interactive and interpretative process. This transformation was made possible through the program called project renewal. Project renewal's success is attributed to its orientation towards mutual understanding and a participatory process built on respectful discussions. Project renewal showed that communication is an important tool in planning and was a factor in lessening differences between various interest groups.
