Born in San Antonio, Texas, American educator and activist, Gloria Rodriguez started out as a bilingual teacher and her first class consisted of 35 first graders who had already been labeled "slow learners" and "mentally retarded" by the other teachers. Founder and CEO of Avance, Inc., a nonprofit support and education program for low-income hispanic parents and children, Rodriguez feels effective parenting does not come naturally and it is an art and includes skills that must be learned.

Born on February 8, 1990, Bethany Hamilton - American amateur surfer, rode her first surfboard when she was just eight months old. Hamilton had been attacked by a tiger shark and was fortunately saved by her companions, as she was a highly trained athlete who could handle a huge blood loss.
