And the winner is ... all of us!

Article Abstract:

There are a number of ways in which those involved in offering career planning advice in the US can improve the standard of the services they provide. They can enter the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Awards of Excellence competition, which is open to both college and employer practitioners, and they can participate in NACE surveys. In particular, providing salary data to NACE, which does not violate antitrust laws, can be valuable, as NACE's Salary Survey provides important benchmark information to career services practitioners and their student clients.

High temperature superconductivity research in the USSR

Article Abstract:

The breakthroughs in the field of high temperature superconductivity (HSTC) research induced a restructuring of science in the USSR. The success of HSTC research would depend on the coordination between scientists of different fields, acquisition of modern instruments and ability to adapt to the emerging technology. In response, the Russian government initiated programs which involve allocation of research funds directly to the scientists on a competitive basis. However, developments in HSTC research were still delayed because of bureaucracy and lack of modern equipment.
