Managers' reactions to a corporate acquisition: comment on Fried, Tiegs, Naughton and Ashforth
Article Abstract:
The process of corporate acquisitions and mergers have often focused on the financial aspects of the process, but little attention is given to its impact on employees. The study by Fried, Tiegs and Naughton was a successful attempt at understanding the behavioral difficulties resulting from acquisitions and mergers. However, the authors failed to address two important issues associated with managers' reactions to corporate takeovers. First, the question of whether managers from different categories of have similar responses to acquisitions, and whether there are differences in the reactions of managers to hostile or cooperative mergers.

Determinants of delegation and consultation by managers
Article Abstract:
The determinants of delegation and consultation are investigated by surveying managers and subordinates in two samples. In addition, managers were interviewed individually or in focus groups. Characteristics of the subordinates and the manager-subordinate relationship determined in part the use of delegation and consultation with individual subordinates. A subordinate who had a favorable exchange relationship with the manager, was competent, worked longer for the manager and shared the leader's task objectives had more delegated authority.

Staging the new romantic hero in the old cynical theatre: on managers, roles and change in Poland

A study was conducted on the perception of Polish managers on their social roles under communism and under an emerging market economy. The communist manager's role was restricted and the manager was dubbed as the political gamesperson. Meanwhile, the contemporary Polish managerial role, inspired by western management, has recently experienced professionalization.
