On the dynamics of appropriability, of tacit and codified knowledge

Article Abstract:

The appropriability of a knowledge has an inversely proportional relationship to its age, to its cumulated search efforts and to the portion of agents knowing the code. Such relationship is based on a finding showing that appropriability is determined by the population of agents knowing the code, the extent of potential users' knowledge and the extent of codification. Meanwhile, a directly proportional relationship exists beween appropriability and the difference in knowledge between extreme agents of the population.

Science and the media

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the association between science and media. Cases supporting a closer science-media-coupling were used to analyze how popularization mediates between media and society. Examples of science media coupling were given based on the adaptation of scientific discourses, popularity of scientists and science's orientation to the media. Results indicated that the level of independence between science and media correlated with their coupling.
