Power, rhetoric, and partnership: primary health care and pie in the sky
Article Abstract:
The problems faced by Family Nursing Center (FNC) in Chicago's Near West Side, in realizing its goals have been studied. FNC was created from a grant from the US Dept of Health and Human Services to provide primary health care to the community while educating nursing students at the same time. Local residents were employed as community health advocates as a way of gaining entry into the community. Findings reveal that relationships between health professionals and lay workers are fraught with problems because of economic realities, conflicting agenda and differences in perception.

What is old is new again
Article Abstract:
It can be argued that Search-Theoretic Non-Cooperative Equilibrium (STNCE) models, search-based models which analyse the existence of money as a widely acceptable medium of exchange, are new only in the analytical structure they adopt. Indeed, STNCE models can be said to be formalising only some of the ideas believed to have been put forward by early economic and social theorists, including Georg Simmel and Carl Menger. The emphasis placed by STNCE models on money's medium of exchange function makes them ideal for further analysis of 'Austrian' views on the evolution of money.

Mississippi shrimpers' unions again: facts, figures, and misrepresentations
Article Abstract:
It is argued that the criticisms of Thomas, Johnson and Riordan (1995) of Durrenberger's 1992 article 'Psychology, Unions, and the Law: Folk Models and the History of Shrimpers' Unions in Mississippi' are misguided. These critics misrepresented facts and offered confusing arguments. For instance, their assertions that shrimp boats were not owned by operators and that Mississippi shrimpers were not independent of processor controls when labor unions were a powerful unifying force are both erroneous.
