Regions, Antiregions, and Their Dynamic Stability: The U.S. Case (1929-1979)
Article Abstract:
Over the last three decades, there has been a greater amount of research devoted to regional economics, particulary United States regional structure. Regional income equalization and distribution changes of population are primary considerations in such regional research, Former theories regarding the decrease in regional income differentials are examined closely in the project involving the interdependency of income and population distributions over regions of the national economy. This research is predicated upon a theory of ecology and develops a dynamic regional model. The two main variables are regional per capita income ratio to the national average and regional population fraction of the total national population. Tables of economic data on nine United States subregions from 1929 to 1979 are featured, as are graphs of regional population and dynamics. Model validation and calibration points to two stable and one unstable equilibria. Graphs of regional isoclines are included. More research is needed on the issue of initial perturbation and the environmental problems of open or closed regions.

Dynamic modeling of vehicle populations: an engineering approach for emissions calculations
Article Abstract:
A methodology and computer model called Forecast of Emissions from Motor Vehicles was developed to predict the emissions of air pollutants caused by road traffic in European Union member countries up to the year 2010. The model has two main parts: a vehicle dynamics module and an emissions calculation module. It can perform and combine the forecasts of future vehicle sales and future mortality rates without overemphasizing any one of the two aspects. It is also as analytical as allowed by available data and flexible enough to accomodate several assumptions about various parameters.

Regions, resources, and economic geography: sources of U.S. regional comparative advantage, 1880-1987
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the Rybczynski regression estimates for the 20 two-digit manufacturing industries for the years 1880, 1900, 1967 and 1987. The data on value added were taken from the Census of manufactures and Niemi. The estimates suggest that factor endowments are associated with the significant amount of geographic distribution of manufacturing industries over time and that there are certain limitations on how the economic geography is affected by increasing returns.
