Researching cultural backgrounds to establish effective sexuality education programs
Article Abstract:
Sexuality education and reproductive health programs of Batam Island, Indonesia will be more effective when the culture of the island will be taken into account. The Perspective Foundation of Indonesia found that the islanders prefer polygamy and have specific attitudes towards sexually transmitted diseases, contraception and sexual drive. As the islanders have a poor educational background, sexuality education needs to be incorporated in health promotion and disease prevention. Non-governmental organizations' cooperation is necessary to enhance the success of the programs.
