Survey supports arguments to start sexuality education in Russia

Article Abstract:

Russia launched a sexuality education project in October 1996, after data gathered by the All-Russian Research Center of Public Opinion indicated that a majority of Russians were in favor of it. Surveys in 1993 and 1995 have shown that young Russians have increasingly become sexually active as a result of liberal attitudes towards sex in the mass media in the wake of perestroika. Findings reveal that sexual activity in teenagers can have effects on lifestyle, behavior and academic performance.

The Lost Children of Rockdale County: teenage syphilis outbreak revisited

Article Abstract:

Issues raised by the documentary 'Frontline: The Lost Children of Rockdale County,' which looked at the problem of teenage syphilis in Atlanta, GA, are discussed. This documentary highlighted a serious lack of communication between teenagers and their parents. Sexual risk behaviour can be minimized by initiatives including safe places for young people to meet with adult supervision.

Issues are presented concerning the use of World Wide Web home pages by adolescent girls as a tool for sexual self-expression. The material which appears on the home pages, and the establishment and management of the sites are discussed.
