Technological innovation in Brazilian industry: an assessment based on the Sao Paulo innovation survey
Article Abstract:
The key features of the pattern of technological innovation in manufacturing industrial companies situated in Sao Paulo state, Brazil, are discussed. It is concluded that most of the effort made by companies with regard to technological innovation is focused in the intermediary and scale-intensive industries. These industries mainly produce commodities, which have seen falling prices on international markets.

An investigation into recent statistics about the globalization of industrial research and development is presented. The largest increases in globalization have occurred in the exploitation of new technologies. However, there is some evidence that a large proportion of technology creation activities of large companies is still based in home economies.
