Technology forecasting and assessment: the case of zero emissions
Article Abstract:
The Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI) is an example of how a quasi-private organization can employ technology for technology's salvation in the face of mounting blames placed on it for numerous social and environmental ills. ZERI is engaged in multiple-use technologies for the utilization of phytomass, either through integrated biosystems or materials separation technologies. Many of ZERI's research is posted on its Web site for easy access by interested government planners and private sector researchers. Each study carries an evaluation from a scientific, an economic and an entrepreneural standpoint.

Adaptability and product development in the Danish plastics industry
Article Abstract:
Research of the Danish plastics industry suggests that Danish companies will have to invest more of their earnings in R&D if they are to compete with international firms. Danish companies have shown poor ability at adapting to new materials, partly because of intricate ties to other industries, like electronics. Danish companies have been able to grow despite low R&D expenditures mostly through specialized knowledge. But future success will require knowledge of the newer processes.
