The JOH 1989 computer products review
Article Abstract:
An overview of new computer products available for the housing and community development field reveals that the products have increased computing power and more compact equipment designs. Housing managers should be aware, however, that while the new computer systems are not necessarily any better than older systems, expandability is important for future improvements. The systems discussed include CHIP Corp's The Inspector housing rehabilitation specification software, Hewlett Packard Co's Vectra QS-16 Microcomputer, New Dimensions Corp's H.O.M.E.S. software, Applied Data Systems Inc's Premier Solution public housing administration software, Data Systems Northwest's MicroChamp housing authority software, Agency Network Services' ANSI public housing authority database, and Minolta Corp's PCW-3 personal computer.

Update: avoiding computer problems
Article Abstract:
Frustration and time-consumption associated with computer system implementation can be minimized through careful planning and process management. Site preparation issues to be addressed include: location, air conditioning, power requirements, static electricity, physical security, noise, furniture, lighting, and supplies. A suggested implementation plan should be included in the vendor's proposal, and care should be taken to properly sequence software modules. Product acceptance and maintenance systems are also addressed.
