The Voluntary Sector, the State, and Citizenship in the United Kingdom
Article Abstract:
The nonprofit, or voluntary sector of the United Kingdom's economy has declined through the 1980s and 1990s. The Conservative government encouraged the wealthiest citizens to contribute to agencies for the needy, yet the state has been unwilling to support the nonprofit sector or to encourage citizens to make choices about social rights. Although social welfare has not become irreversibly weak, it has been overwhelmed by the increasing tasks of direct service.

Submissiveness and risk of heart disease
Article Abstract:
This article examines the relationship between work values and risk of heart disease. The author, comparing the work values of 62 Japanese expatriates with 53 British workers in the same occupation and their risk for coronary heart disease, found that both groups' results were very similar, and concludes "tension at work" and "fear of expressing disagreement" are strong predictors of coronary heart disease risk.
