The circled wagons of science
Article Abstract:
Three books discuss the changing role of science in culture. These are 'Darwinism: Science of Philosophy?' edited by Jon Buell and Virginia Hearn, 'Higher Superstition: The Academic Left and Its Quarrels with Science,' by Paul R. Gross and Norman Levitt, and 'Reason in the Balance: The Case Against Naturalism in Science, Law and Education,' by Phillip E. Johnson. Science is under attack both by those who argue that it only benefits a privileged few and by usual conservative Christians.

Postmodern creation myth? A response
Article Abstract:
John Barrow and Frank Tipler's analysis of various interpretations of the Anthropic Principle and its association with the concept of postmodernism is flawed. Postmodernism and the Anthropic Principle cannot be joined together without destroying the essence of both concepts. Similarly, the Enlightenment philosophy cannot be used in discussing concepts of creation as it uses empirical science for truth and moral guidance.

The Anthropic principle: a postmodern creation myth?
Article Abstract:
Scientists have leveled criticisms against the Anthropic Principle due to its limited view of the universe. The principle is based on the theory that the universe may exist for the sole purpose of supporting human life. Postmodernists can integrate the Anthropic Principle with scientific and religious beliefs on the origin of human beings to create an acceptable concept of creation.
