The philosophical politics of Jean-Francois Lyotard
Article Abstract:
The commitment of Jean-Francois Lyotard to difference results in political indifference, since the only political value it endorses is the right to differ. Lyotard's postmodern philosophy is based on linguistic idealism, with roots in Cartesian doubt. Lyotard's analysis of Robert Faurrisson's Holocaust revisionism demonstrates how his philosophy leads to a decontextualized interpretation of phrases. The indifference of Lyotard's postmodern politics is contrasted with the position of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, who endorse radical democracy for the protection of diversity.

The imagined and wished for imperium of reason and science: Russell's empiricism and its relation to his and our ethics and politics
Article Abstract:
Bertrand Russell believed that ethics is not totally a part of science or philosophy as it cannot arrive at the truth. Hence, he tried to connect his philosophy and empiricism on moral and other related questions. He believed that regulating science by empiricism could provide the best knowledge. Moreover, since empirical liberalism has its basis in theoretical philosophy and science, it can effectively control moral and political practice. His views do not inhibit the attempts to suppress and replace occurrent desires and present practices with scientific orientations.

Democratic politics and survey research
Article Abstract:
Reframing a survey research's unit of analysis and the consideration of alternatives to standard, national samples in political surveys may promote new democratic possibilities within such studies. Survey researchers need to determine alternatives to the privatized, individualistic, attitudinal conception of public opinion to exploit the democratic and pragmatic possibilities related to survey research.
