The rhetoric of dread: fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) in information technology marketing
Article Abstract:
The use of scare tactics in the marketing of computers and computer software has been practiced for years. In the 1960s and 1970s IBM used the tactic they dubbed FUD (fear, uncertainity and doubt) against Amdahl Corp. Microsoft is currently using the same tactics against the Linux operating system.
