The welfare economics of the rural-to-urban migration: the Harris-Todaro model revisited
Article Abstract:
Two opposing views of the welfare economics of rural-to-urban migration are analyzed by employing an extended Harris-Todaro model which consists of a developed urban sector and a less-developed rural sector. The first view suggests the implementation of economic policies that would transfer labor from low-productivity rural areas to high-productivity urban areas and promote factor mobility. Contrary to this suggestion, is the view that urban growth in the less developed countries has been excessive and policy should be addressed at limiting an urban preference.

A non-Gaussian time series analysis of rural retail business counts
Article Abstract:
Service industries were once seen as linked to goods and production in rural areas rather than making a major contribution to the economic life of such places. Threshold analysis is used to measure the amount of people in an area and the number of goods and services available to them, as the population grows so will the services and goods. Researchers have come up with another model, the time series model, to use as a measuring tool for the numbers of retailers in a given rural area.

A contextual theory of retail central places on a linear market
Article Abstract:
A new central place theory for retailing activities which serves as an extension of three research paradigms in the area of consumer and retail manager behavior was developed. The model postulates that the spatial relationship between the optimum location of retail central places and household location is governed by transport costs, retailer capital costs, commodities' storage costs and expenditure shares for goods.
