Theories, practices, and pluralism: a pragmatic interpretaiton of critical social science
Article Abstract:
A tension exists in critical social science between methodological pluralism and theoretical unification, exemplified by the work of Jurgen Habermas. A pluralistic approach to critical social science is suggested, based on Dewey's pragmatism, and its relationship to democracy is discussed.

Individualists deny the existence of social systems. Radical individualists, from the medieval nominalists onwards, feel that only individuals are real, whereas wholes, from families to societies are solely in mind.
