Why do firms cooperate on R&D? An empirical study
Article Abstract:
Several factors enhance research and development (R&D) cooperation in the Netherlands. The impact of export shares on the choice of foreign partners, membership of an enterprise in a group of companies and the role of a formal R&D department in an organization are among them. However, firm size, market structure, R&D intensity and high shares of product-related R&D do not necessarily lead to R&D cooperation among firms. R&D cooperation is not limited among big, high technology companies in the Netherlands. Even in smaller companies in the medium and low technology sectors, R&D cooperation is practiced.
