Breast implants, the cult of beauty, and a culturally constructed 'disease.'
Article Abstract:
The medical community, in designating small breasts as a disease, has done a grave disservice to women. Medical research, which suggests that breast implants can remedy such kind of deformity, is actually providing a cultural definition of beauty. Women who have small breasts, albeit they are healthy, may think that they are not beautiful enough or are suffering from a serious illness and therefore require breast implants. By thinking this way, women are actually exposing themselves to more health risks that accompany breast implants.

'Breast is best': infant feeding decisions and maternal deviance

Issues are discussed regarding the importance of the perceived benefits of breast feeding on a mother's infant feeding intentions. A framework, drawn from the sociology of deviance, is applied to the womens' accounts of their infant feeding intentions, and shows that the choices are irreducibly moral.Women face proving that they are good mothers when defending their intentions.
