Dispositional inferences of ability: content and process
Article Abstract:
The method by which trait-behavior expectations inform perceivers' dispositional inferences of ability was examined. In Experiment 1, perceivers were under varied levels of cognitive load while processing information regarding a target person's performance and its situational context. Results showed that trait-behavior expectations play a role at the correction stage of dispositional inference rather than at an earlier stage of processing. The correction stage involved several operations, which includes the rehearsal of situational information. Meanwhile, under low load, perceivers process situational information at a deep level.
