Emerging issues for social workers in the field of aging: White House Conference themes
Article Abstract:
The emerging trends and issues for social workers in the field of aging were identified based on the evaluation of themes from previous White House Conferences on Aging. Social workers can meet the increasing demand for aging services by strengthening prevention as part of the continuum of care, furthering the involvement of the family and addressing the need for multicultural services. The person-in-environment approach, which embodies the dependence of an individual's well-being on the fit between the person and the environmental factors, should also be used in their practice.

Social policy and the politics of Hispanic aging
Article Abstract:
The political participation of Hispanic elders, manifested through voting and other such tools, is studied to examine the politics of aging for Hispanics in the US. As Hispanics and the elders become the two rapidly growing interest groups in the country, it is especially important to understand the power of this population to effect social change. Findings showed that the Hispanic elders voted most than any other age group in the US Hispanic population, This indicates that Hispanic senior citizens have become a potent segment in the US politics.

Sociological resarch on age: legacy and challenge: a comment
Article Abstract:
The argument put forward by the Rileys regarding cohort norm formation in the 'aging and society' paradigm is a noteworthy one. Their examples clearly demonstrate that the 'meaning' of social structures can be changed collectively by many individuals. As such, they have come up with an excellent explanation for the emergence of new norms that become widely accepted and institutionalized. Furthermore, they demonstrate that cross-cultural studies can be sued to study particular phases of such a process simultaneously.
