Garden program provides a "growing experience."
Article Abstract:
The Los Angeles County, CA, Community Development Commission (CDC) is offering a landscape training program to give public housing residents the opportunity to become self-sufficient. Administered in cooperation with the University of California's Common Ground Program, the one-year training program teaches greenhouse, nursery and landscaping skills. Residents undergo six months of training that includes installation of an irrigation system, plant identification, landscape construction, propagation skills and fertilization techniques. In addition, trainees receive classroom instruction at a local college. After the field and classroom training, trainees are put in internships, and later on, jobs at different nursery and landscaping companies.

Parents' perceptions of the miscarriage experience
Article Abstract:
The effect of miscarriage was examined in six middle-class married couples, between 25 to 36 years of age and first-time parents. Reactions varied depending on the degree of reality of the pregnancy. Those who felt their pregnancy as real and gave their child a matching personality experienced the deepest grief. Others who had felt the pregnancy as real, but did not acknowledge the child, simply felt a sense of loss. Feelings of slight concern and acceptance were evident among those who did not feel any sense of being pregnant.
