Hong Kong triads after 1997
Article Abstract:
A report on triad activities in Hong Kong from the year 1997 to 2004 is presented. Hong Kong triad members were found to enter the Chinese market against the view that mass triad migration to Western countries would occur around the period when Hong Kong was turned over to Mainland China in the year 1997.

Corruption was widely accepted as endemic in most sectors of Hong Kong life as recently as the early 1970s. Legislation and support of the private sector has improved public education, investigation and prevention, relegating corruption to the lowest levels Hong Kong has probably every known.

The economic perspective of institutions in Hong Kong that uncritically use local organizations and leaders is questioned. The disregard of these socially embedded institutions for the condition of the unequal poor within such 'legitimate'communities is criticized.
