"Fear-then-relief" procedure for producing compliance: beware when the danger is over
Article Abstract:
Research has indicated that people who are subjected to elements of threat designed to place them under a state of grave anxiety frequently respond positively to various requests addressed to them when the source of the anxiety is abruptly withdrawn. It is argued that abrupt elimination of threat and not the fear per se produces the compliance. Four field studies and one experiment to investigate the efficacy of this technique to produce compliance called fear-then-relief are discussed.

Consistency-based compliance across cultures
Article Abstract:
Important ways in which the impact on compliance can be influenced by differences in individualism/collectivism were revealed from an examination of the compliant behavior of people from the United States and Asia. In both cultures a stronger consistency with their earlier compliance was observed in the more individualistic participants than in the participants who were more collectivistically inclined.
