Cross-eyed sociology in Egypt and the Arab World
Article Abstract:
There are around 2,000 sociologists throughout the Arab World in the mid-1990s, but many appear to be suffering from self-doubt and professional focus because of the lack of role models or leadership. Arab sociologists have been demoralized by divisions resulting from the Second Gulf War of 1990-1991, the collapse of the ideology-based socialist bloc and the collapse of 'revolutionary socialist state projects' in leading Arab countries. Some Arab sociologists are becoming hostile to Western social science because of their religious beliefs.

Canadian sociology
Article Abstract:
Canadian sociology can be differentiated from American sociology in that it is made unique by the nature of Quebec, it has no set policy orientation but has a tendency toward intellectual radicalism, and it has the myth of survival. Few English-Canadian sociologists create an impact on their constituency, apart from in Quebec where there is a large audience for public intellectuals. Sociology Ph.D's are held by around 2,500 Canadian citizens, although many may have been obtained in the US.
